Information
Published in 1910 by the British poet Joseph Rudyard Kipling, a Nobel laureate in literature, the poem expresses a father's deep love and expectations for his son. Kipling presented this poem as a birthday gift to his 14-year-old son, John. Four years later, inspired by the poem, young John resolutely joined World War I. He went missing during the Battle of the Somme. After learning this, the author Kipling spent four years searching for him in Europe but to no avail. He then wrote: If anyone asks why I died, tell them it's because our fathers lied.
